Seasons of Change
SEASONS OF CHANGE is a story about peculiar events, breath taking scenarios, constant movements and changes―state of flux—motio, continuum, in the life of the people of Nigeria especially the Alaoma community and the entire Eastern Nigeria in the colonial British West Africa and beyond that era. The theme of continuous change is central in the story.
It begins by describing the hunting expedition and missing in the forest of two boys, Ijenwa and Okwuchukwu―major characters in the story. The experience becomes a transformational encounter of endurance and courage for the boys while showcasing solidarity within the Alaoma community to find its missing sons. It also depicts the transition from village to city life for the boys.
The story equally elaborates on the experiences of Nigerians from colonialism to independence; then a period of political instability and social upheaval leading to secession by Eastern Nigeria; declaring a new nation—Biafra. The latter results in a gruesome war with the other segments of Nigeria; leading to unprecedented humanitarian disaster causing horrendous carnage and death. The story highlights pervading cruelty then.
